TOPFLO® BALL CHECK VALVE

Engineered to ensure product flow and prevent backflow, this stainless steel sanitary ball check valve is a reliable component for food and beverage processing systems. Available from 1.5" to 3" Tri-clamp connection and a robust PTFE ball, it provides efficient and hygienic operation in demanding applications. During use, the product flow moves the ball into a larger chamber, keeping it clear of the main stream for unobstructed flow. When the flow ceases, the ball returns to its closed position to block backflow effectively.

Key features:

  • Constructed from high-quality stainless steel for durability and hygiene.
  • PTFE ball ensures compatibility with a wide range of products.
  • Material Test Reports (MTRs) supplied for complete traceability and compliance. ( Need to request when you place the order).

Ideal for sanitary processing applications, this valve offers a simple yet effective solution for maintaining flow control in your system.

Case Study: Dairy Production Facility

Challenge: A dairy processing plant was experiencing issues with backflow in their milk transfer lines during cleaning cycles. The backflow not only disrupted the cleaning process but also risked contamination in their sanitary piping system. The facility needed a solution that could prevent backflow while allowing full flow of milk during production.

Solution:
The plant installed 2" sanitary clamp ball check valves with PTFE balls in their milk transfer lines. These valves were chosen for their ability to prevent backflow automatically and their sanitary design, which meets FDA and 3A standards for food-grade processing. The PTFE ball was also ideal for handling dairy products due to its resistance to sticking and compatibility with CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems.

Results:

  • Eliminated Backflow: The ball check valves effectively prevented backflow, ensuring a clean and contamination-free system.
  • Improved Efficiency: Product flow during production was unhindered, as the ball moved into the trap area, allowing full flow.
  • Ease of Maintenance: The simple design of the valve reduced downtime during cleaning and maintenance.

Case of Study #2

Case Study: Beverage Production – Carbonated Drinks
Challenge:
A beverage company manufacturing carbonated drinks faced challenges with pressure fluctuations in their filling lines, leading to backflow and product loss. They needed a reliable valve to protect against reverse flow while withstanding high pressures and maintaining sanitary standards.

Solution:
The company integrated stainless steel ball check valves with PTFE balls into their carbonation and filling lines. These valves were selected for their durability under pressure, ability to handle carbonated beverages without degradation, and their ease of installation with clamp connections.

Results:

  • Reduced Product Loss: The valves prevented backflow, minimizing wasted product.
  • Maintained Carbonation Levels: The smooth flow ensured carbonation was not disrupted.
  • Regulatory Compliance: The valves’ material test reports (MTRs) provided full traceability, meeting stringent quality standards.

1. Product Flow in the Forward Direction:

  • When liquid or product flows in the intended direction (forward), the pressure of the flow pushes the ball out of the valve seat and into a larger chamber, called the trap area.
  • The ball moves completely out of the product stream, allowing an unobstructed flow of liquid through the valve.

2. Flow Stops or Reverse Pressure Occurs:

  • When the forward flow stops or when there’s a reversal of pressure (backflow), the ball is pushed back into the valve seat by gravity or reverse pressure.
  • The ball creates a tight seal against the valve seat, preventing liquid from flowing back through the system.

3. Key Features Enabling Operation:

  • Ball Material (e.g., PTFE): The ball is typically made from materials like PTFE, which are resistant to sticking, provide a reliable seal, and are compatible with a wide range of products (e.g., dairy, beverages, and chemicals).
  • Sanitary Design: The valve is engineered for easy cleaning and minimal dead zones to comply with hygiene standards like FDA and 3-A.

4. Applications of This Mechanism:

  • Preventing Contamination: In food and beverage processing, these valves stop product from flowing backward, protecting upstream equipment and preventing cross-contamination.
  • Ensuring System Efficiency: By automatically sealing and opening as needed, the valves eliminate the need for manual intervention.
